Sidewalking Victoria is 10 Years Old!
On June 5th, 2015, the very first blog post went up on SidewalkingVictoria.com. You can read that first post here. It was pretty short as I didn’t really have any intention or expectation of anyone seeing it. I am not sure anyone actually ever has… When that first post went up, all I had was a short list of some subjects I might like to write about (Centennial Square, Mid-Block Walkways, Ground Floor Offices) and I needed a starting place. I certainly didn’t intend to still be writing Sidewalking Victoria a decade later. Those early posts are a little gritty now and maybe my writing has gotten a little better, but the subject matter is still pretty much the same.
Since that first post ten years ago, readership has continually grown year after year and really I mostly just want to thank all of you for being part of this with me, especially those of you that reach out to me and with your emails and your article comments. At this point, I have lost track of how many articles I have written just because one of you says something to me about the one I have just posted.
While I have been doing all of the writing and photography on here for the last decade, it really would not have been possible without the amazing support of my family, especially my wife Catherine, who goes out of her way to help me get articles done or get me to that place for one last picture.
I also want to thank Mike at Citified Victoria for being a sponsor of Sidewalking Victoria since almost the beginning. There have been some challenging years over the last decade, and having that support has really helped keep me going.
I haven’t planned anything spectacular as a 10 year celebration, but I wanted to acknowledge it. Also with this weekend being the Fernwood Art Stroll, I have enough on my plate, though I would love to have some of you stop by and say hi.
As it is now, I am going to keep going. Thank you Victoria!
I still use my amazing original logo which was designed by Catherine right in that first month. (She even got me a t-shirt with it on it)
