Fernwood Art Stroll 2026

It’s only a week until the Fernwood Art Stroll! This will be my third year in the ‘stroll’ and I am really looking forward to it. If you haven’t heard about the Fernwood Art Stroll before, be sure to check the website here: https://fernwoodartstroll.ca/

The short story is that the Fernwood Art Stroll has been around since 2007. Unlike art shows like the Moss Street Paint-in, the artists aren’t congregated in one spot. Instead, due to the heavy concentration of artists in the neighbourhood, each artist hosts the public at their home or studio. This makes for a much more intimate and in-depth experience with the art and the process behind it. Additionally, each location serves more as a unique art opening than as a simple table with art on it, as you might see at another event.

Last year, I had probably about 400 people come through my show on Empire Street over the two days. It is always such a treat to get to meet some of you in person while also getting to talk about photography and Victoria. I really try and create a space at my home that has room for people to feel free to hang out and chat with each other in addition to meeting me. Each year, I try and make a little promo video for the show. The one from last year is below. My plan is to try and out-do it this year and make it even more fun.

One of the items that is always brought up with me as people come by my show is that they wish they could see the whole show. This year, the concentration of locations is more conducive to doing this than previous years. I have done up a little map below based on the map on the website that gives you a looping route that hits each location. Keep in mind that my place is the red map pin at the north end of the show (No. 9 on the website).

Start anywhere along the purple line and walk the whole stroll!

You can of course, walk through the stroll anyway you want. This year we are expecting that the Saturday is going to be busier than the Sunday due to the numerous concurrent events on the Saturday. If you are wanting a more relaxed stroll for the whole day, Sunday might be the day to come out. If you want to have a busy walk with lots of side-quests, than Saturday is for you. On Saturday the following events are also going on:

Oaklands Garage Sale & Street Party - https://oaklands.life/oca-events

The Fernwood Catwalk - https://www.fernwoodcatwalk.com/

Ichigo Strawberry Moon Festival - https://fernwoodnrg.ca/strawberry-ichigo-market-may-30-31-2026/

The Garage Sale and Catwalk, like the Fernwood Art Stroll, are spread across the neighbourhood and I believe have maps of their own on their sites.

I should note one additional thing about my show, one of our artists, Torsten Shoeneberg is a roving poet/writer and he does readings across the show. He will be doing one of his amazing performances at my location at 1:00pm on the Sunday. I would strongly encourage people attend at this time as it is quite impressive and entertaining.

If you have any questions or ideas for me, let me know in the comments or send me an email at SidewalkingVictoria@gmail.com

I look forward to seeing all of you there!
