Victoria in Transit - The Streetlamp Salon
In December, Ray Straatsma and I hosted the City Talks on Public Spaces. At that same event, we announced that going forward our speaking series would be called The Streetlamp Salon. We are now very excited to be hosting the very first event as The Streetlamp Salon: Victoria in Transit on March 10th.
The Streetlamp Salon, and the City Talks that preceded it, grew out of our shared belief that Victoria needed more opportunities for people to get together in person to talk about our city in an inclusive and non-antagonistic space. Too much of the current conversation about our city takes place online, at City Hall, or in the media. We hope that The Streetlamp Salon can be a part of this landscape and be a third space where we can come together to listen to some of our city’s thought leaders and create a dialogue with them on how to make Victoria even better.
Victoria in Transit brings together an excellent panel, moderated by our own Ray Straatsma. Ray is well-positioned to lead this conversation from his experience teaching urban mobility at UVic. Joining Ray for this conversation are three fantastic panelists:
Todd Litman (Victoria Transport Policy Institute): Bringing decades of research and global context to how we plan and fund equitable urban mobility.
Sam Holland (Better Transit YYJ): Sharing grassroots perspectives and advocacy for immediate, bus-focused improvements and rider experiences.
Levi Megenbir (BC Transit): Bringing a focused perspective on the opportunities with transit in the region.
The conversation will focus on some of the many challenges currently facing transit in the region; where we are implementing some unique ways of moving people around; and how we can create an inspiring system for the future.
Our last two panel discussions were held at theDock, an incredible co-working space downtown. For this event, we have moved into a new space, the brand new Ruth and Dean Luncheonette and Market on Store Street. This new location opens up the possibility for the audience to get a drink or snack during the event and will hopefully create a true salon feel.
The agenda for the evening is as follows: The Schedule (Tuesday, March 10):
6:00 PM: Doors Open (Settle in, grab a coffee and a bite)
6:30 PM: Panel Discussion
7:30 PM: Audience Q&A
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Open Networking & Mingling
Tickets for our first Streetlamp Salon are available now on Eventbrite, though get them soon, as our last two events have sold out quickly.
